Michael Baker

Michael Baker is a novelist from the northern town of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Having grown up steeped in the mysticism of his own fantasy world, it inevitably took shape in the written word with the “Counterbalance” series. “The Thousand Scars” is Michael’s first novel, and is also the first of an epic trilogy that will set Baker firmly on the map as one of England’s premier fantasy writers.

As a child, Michael was a voracious reader. The world of “Counterbalance” was born during his teenage years, during a five hundred-word story assignment in a Year 8 English class. Those five hundred words became multiple exercise books, filled with ideas and stories. Michael graduated from university in 2011. With a newly minted degree in History and Politics, Michael initially spent several years struggling to plan his future, until a re-discovered passion for writing chose his path for him. As part of his history background, Michael loves researching the military cultures of the world, his preferred time periods being ancient Greece, Imperial Rome and the Second World War.

Michael is an avid video gamer, and writes an extensive blog about his favourite games. Alongside his passion for world building, writing and gaming, he also creates maps, bringing his own fantasy world, as well as other peoples’, to cartographic life.
